Monk’s World
Monk, is a simple, enigmatic figure.
He appears in many of my pictures, created from a single stroke of red ink, supplemented with four small black marks.
He provides a still, contemplative centre to a shifting, organic, unknowable world.
He embodies watchful calm.

Though the days are short and the sky is cold, Monk’s path is long.
The swirling ink and pastel skies capture the quiet solitude of winter.
This is a contemplative piece, echoing perseverance and inner stillness - part of an ongoing exploration of an imaginary synthesis of inner and outer reality.
By a summer lake, Monk pauses to remember where he is.
A meditation in warm tones, this piece evokes presence, stillness, and the hush of nature.
The flow of ink, the empty spaces and the shifting golds mirror the inner peace of contemplation.
A lone red-robed figure — Monk — stands still on a high grey bluff, facing the sea as the last light of day sinks beneath the horizon. Monk Near the Sea is a quiet meditation on transience, rendered in expressive ink washes and stark brushwork. Blackened trees lean like thoughts toward the sea. A crimson sun, heavy and surreal, bleeds into the water below. The land is mottled with soft shadows and flickers of yellow — the last hints of life before nightfall.
This piece is part of the Monk’s World series, a collection of minimalist, symbolic ink landscapes that trace the solitary wanderings of a timeless figure through strange and shifting dreamscapes.
The visual language here blends Mystic Minimalism with East Asian ink wash aesthetics, yet stands outside tradition — evocative, ambiguous, and personal. Monk Near the Sea is about endings, yes, but also about stillness, clarity, and acceptance.
Where sea meets land, Monk pauses.
Wilderness looms behind him, emptiness stretches before. “Monk Looks Out to Sea” captures a moment of still contemplation — a quiet figure poised on the edge of decision, surrounded by stark trees, inky shadows, and the blood-red shape of something unknown on the horizon. A dreamlike scene rendered in fluid washes and bold silhouettes, this piece invites the viewer to pause and wonder: where would you go next?

Monk in a Clearing captures Monk, a solitary figure, as he pauses in a dreamlike landscape of mist, silence, and unspoken meaning. Rendered in flowing acrylic and ink, the composition evokes movement, contemplation, and serenity. Bare trees and distant birds suggest the changing seasons of the mind, and Monk’s tiny presence in this expansive landscape hints at timeless wandering — a metaphor for inner exploration.
Soft hues of blue and grey contrast with looming areas of black and a striking red accent, creating a powerful visual narrative that’s both meditative and mysterious. This work invites quiet reflection and offers a calm, emotional presence to any space.

In “Monk and the Sunburst”, the wandering figure of the Monk pauses just as the clouds part, releasing a sudden, radiant burst of colour into a quiet, monochrome world. This A3-sized work from the 'Monk’s World' series captures a fleeting spiritual moment — a vision, a transformation, or perhaps a realisation.
The soft blue sky and expressive black ink wash evoke mist, shadow, and stillness, contrasted sharply by a vivid pink sunburst that brings emotional intensity. The composition speaks of stillness pierced by beauty, of solitude touched by awe.
This piece invites reflection and would suit collectors of minimalist, contemplative, or zen-inspired art. Its small size makes it ideal for intimate spaces, meditation corners, or personal nooks.

Monk is struggling. Shapes seem to be blending into each other and the world has lost its share.

As the day gives way to dusk, Monk pauses on a quiet ridge. Beneath a glowing red sun and a fading blue sky, he stands silently beside a bare tree — a moment suspended in time.
“Monk at Sunset” is part of the ‘Monk’s World’ series, a meditative exploration of solitude, purpose, and wandering through unknown landscapes. With bold yet restrained ink-flow and brushwork, this piece uses ink and acrylic on watercolour paper to evoke inner stillness. A burst of crimson in the sun and figure adds a note of quiet drama to the otherwise muted palette.
This small-format painting is perfect for collectors drawn to zen aesthetics, introspective themes, or poetic minimalism.
