Monk Goes Large
I’ve been experimenting in making my ‘Monk' pictures larger.
I’ve made a couple at A2 size (42cm x 60cm).
This is my first attempt at A1 size (60cm x 84cm)
In the first stage of the process, each layer of ink needs to go on while the previous layers are still wet. So as the surface area increases, so does the speed at which I must work.
Another challenge is scaling up the elements within the image. Birds, trees and especially Monk need to be larger - but also there needs to be a greater number of elements to keep the eye moving around the larger canvas. Yet the effect needs not to be busy or crowded.
So this is my first A1 image.
Any thoughts?
I listened to Ryuchi Sakamoto’s final album ‘Opus’ as I made this, though do not use it (for copyright reasons) in the film of the process. The music in the film is my own composition.
