Trees & Landscapes

These pictures are the heart of my work: trees painted in black and red on a white background.

They are influenced by Japanese Art - though I’m not trying to copy Japanese techniques.

I love the simplicity and sense of space the colour limitation creates.

Though I didn’t realise it when I started, I now think that another love of mine appears in these pictures - woodcut (or woodblock) prints. There’s something about the way the line appears on the paper that reminds me of woodcuts.

If I ever have time, space and money, I’m going to invest in a small printing press.
